The Family Drive-In Theatre – NOW SHOWING: July 30 – Aug 5

The Family Drive-In, located on U.S. Route 11 just south of Stephens City, is one of seven drive-ins left in the state of Virginia and is the only drive in movie theater left in Northern VA. Opened in 1957, this treasure is one of the few remaining drive-in theaters in Virginia. Featuring a playground, concession stand, two screens and a great soundtrack through the speakers before the movie. This family friendly facility also allows pets so bring your dag and enjoy some good old fashioned family fun. The theatre is now under new management, read the story in the Clarke Daily News here.

Winchester Royals Baseball

The Winchester Royals are a member of the 12 team, summer collegiate wooden bat Valley Baseball League, National Alliance of College Summer Baseball, an organization comprised of eight summer collegiate baseball leagues. Wilson’s Wild Animal Park

Wilson’s Wild Animal Park is nestled in the Northern Shenandoah Valley, just minutes from Winchester. The park is home to over 200 mammals, birds, and reptiles, which represent more than 50 species of wild animals from all over the world.

The park covers over 20 acres, many of which are naturally wooded. Watch lions relaxing in the grass as Thomson’s Gazelle and giant African tortoises graze nearby. Other exhibits include camels, ostrich, zebra, monkeys, parrots, baboons, antelope, and many more.

We allow feeding of the more gentle animals such as deer, sheep, and goats. Our park is a great family destination – bring your children and allow them to feed the animals. We also offer group discounts and accommodations.

Handley Regional Library

The Handley Library Opened in 1913 and is probably the best example of Beaux-Arts architecture in Virginia. It features a three story rotunda, interior stained-glass dome, exterior copper dome, historic light fixtures, and glass stack floors. Located in the basement are the Stewart Bell Jr. Archives that house a comprehensive collection of materials pertaining to the Shenandoah Valleyfrom 1732 to present.

Burwell-Morgan Mill

The Burwell-Morgan Mill, established in 1785, is the oldest operable merchant mill in the Shenandoah Valley. The mill operated 24/7, processing more than 60,000 bushels of wheat per year. The community of Millwood grew around this commercial center as related businesses were established, and by way of the seaports at Alexandria and Baltimore, mill products were shipped abroad.

Belle Grove Plantation

Belle Grove is an 18th-century grain and livestock farm which was the center of the decisive battle Battle of Cedar Creek during the Civil War. The plantation includes the main house and gardens, original outbuildings, a classic 1918 barn, an overseer’s house, the slave cemetery, a heritage apple orchard, fields and meadows, and scenic mountain views.
